The obvious differences between the old & the new OET?

The obvious differences between the old & the new OET?

OET is being updated to keep pace with the growing advances in technology as well as the growing awareness about healthcare and what it has to offer amongst the public.

What will be updated?

The main updates being introducing from September are as follows:

  • In the Speaking sub-test,

-a wider range of communication skills, when dealing with patients;

-scenarios that are more similar to those that are encountered in usual health care interactions with patients.

  • In the Listening sub-test

-a broader range of accents from all over the world will be introduced ( this is because of the placement of health care professionals worldwide, now)

  • In the Listening and Reading sub-tests,

-tasks that reflect professional-to-professional communication,

-scenarios wherein consulting with a colleague and/or other healthcare associates, will also be added due to the rapid progress in the health care sector and the increasing  need for specialist opinions; also the trend of practicing defensive medicine in routine issues.

  • An additional and more detailed scoring scale

-an introduction of a more in-depth scoring pattern will be included alongside the general A to E results score.

– this will also make self-assessment easier and will help one get a better idea of how one’s performance.

Find out more detailed explanations about the specific updates and changes made to the Listening, Reading and Speaking sub-tests in this blog.

Note: Many OET tasks, the format of the test and the focus in each sub-test will remain the same. The OET will be neither more difficult nor easier than it currently is. It is just changing to keep abreast with the rapidly developing health care edicts.

Just follow this blog to help you understand what is same and what is different and all your fears about the changes will be dispelled. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us on a one to one level and enquire about these changes with our trainer who has the double advantage of already teaching OET for several years and now being trained by the top people in OET to teach the changed OET modules too.
